Right, righteousness, and act: why should Confucian activists be regarded as citizens in the revival of Confucian education in contemporary China?

This article explores three core elements of citizenship – right, responsibility, and act their implications for the rise Confucian activists in revival education present-day China. Adopting an empirical research approach, author draws from two sets resources: public speeches by a leader contemporary classical education, interviews with teachers parents at school. A critical discourse analysis data is conducted to examine emerging themes. First, study identifies widespread circulation right (quanli) within field education. Second, focusing on righteousness (yi), it reveals how this particular ideology, articulated through local terminologies, generates sense civic responsibility obligation. Third, investigates idea “extending innate knowledge” (zhi liangzhi) its contribution conversion internal, individual ethical reflection creative, acts. Based findings, challenges popular characterisation Confucianism as contradiction citizenship. The offers opportunity explore more nuanced understanding effects formation “Confucian citizen”.
